Winnie Cain was introduced to the Akha people in 1996 and has been working with them ever since. She founded the Akha Women's Foundation in 2001. The purpose of the foundation is to empower a minority group of Akha girls and women in northern Thailand and give them the tools to succeed. AWF sponsors girls that want to pursue a higher education. The foundation has committed to sponsoring four girls a year.
Winnie is seeking to replenish the Akha Foundation's board after losing most of their members when she recently moved from Arizona to Utah. She seeks like-minded people with a passion to help those who are oppressed and prejudiced against, both as board members or as volunteers to travel to Thailand to help teach a vocation or English.
