"State of the City" Address Featuring Mayor Pike
You’ve heard the State of the Union and State of the State addresses in recent weeks. But what’s happening locally with the things that affect you on a daily basis? Come join the Chamber of Commerce next Wednesday as we host St. George Mayor Jon Pike for his first annual “State of the City” address.
The economy in southwestern Utah continues to trend upward and Mayor Pike has been at the forefront of community planning efforts to prepare for the next decade of socio-economic opportunities and challenges. With a busy first year as mayor under his belt, Pike will discuss local economic indicators, touch on recent accomplishments and present some priorities for 2015 and beyond. Public safety, transportation, education, economic development, natural resources, affordable housing and recreation are important factors that contribute to the quality of life we enjoy in St. George and surrounding areas. Knowing and understanding the pivotal role the City of St. George plays in several of these factors, Pike will share his insight and philosophy for their sustainability moving forward.
As an avid supporter of secondary and higher education institutions in Washington County, Pike played a critical role in negotiations that will allow for a new elementary school downtown and provide Dixie State University the space for future campus growth and expansion of programs. He will touch on these and other key private and public partnerships in the community that will influence economic vitality in Utah’s Dixie. If you’re interested in what local government is doing for you, your family and your business, please join us at the first annual “State of the City!”
