DSU President's Colleagues Meeting
Dixie State University will hold its first President’s Colleagues of DSU meeting of the 2014-15 academic year on Monday, October 6, featuring a presentation on coin collecting by colleague William G. “Bill” Fulton.
Fulton’s presentation, entitled “Care and Handling of Collectable Coins,” will introduce the audience to numismatics, which is study or collection of currency, including coins, tokens, paper money and other related objects. A retired United States Air Force veteran, Fulton, along with his father, started researching older U.S. coinage and its history, and from that research came a valuable collection of various denominations. Among his collection is the Morgan Silver Dollar, which he states “is one of the most beautiful coins ever minted by the U.S. Mint.”
The President’s Colleagues of Dixie State University, established more than 20 years ago by former DSU President Dr. Douglas Alder, is a group of retired professors and other professionals who live mostly in the St. George and Washington County area. Dr. Alder, who also started an Honors Program at DSU, organized the Colleagues as a way to increase academic activities on campus.
The Colleagues meet together once a month during the academic year to hear presentations from each other and/or invited guests. The next Colleagues meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 3, 2014, featuring a presentation by author and musician Teresa Jordan.
