Dixie Forum: A Window to the World
Dixie State University's "Dixie Forum: A Window on the World" series continues with a presentation about fine art painting by Julie Rogers. This special presentation begins at noon and may run until 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the North Plaza building on the DSU campus. Admission is free for all community members, DSU students, faculty and staff.
Rogers, who started drawing and painting as a child and studied fine art at Brigham Young University, says being a mother has added depth to her work. Through the joys and tears associated with motherhood, she has been able to better understand the pioneers and children she is particularly fond of painting.
"I love to record the simple things people do each day and capture the emotion of the moment," Rogers said. "I love to paint light as it dances around a subject, especially the human figure. It is my desire to not only paint the physical being, but the personality and sense of soul."
Dixie Forum is designed to introduce the St. George community and DSU students, faculty and staff to diverse ideas and personalities while widening their worldviews via a 50-minute presentation. Dixie State students can earn one college credit by signing up for HUM 1000, attending lectures regularly, carefully considering the ideas expressed and writing about the presentations.
The weekly series will continue its fall slate at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when Kai Anderson offers a presentation on Apple computers.
