Dixie Forum: A Window to the World
After taking a week off for spring break, Dixie State University’s weekly noontime “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” forum series returns to its 2014 Spring Semester schedule this Tuesday, March 18, with a presentation on sugar toxicity by University of Utah biology professor Dr. Wayne Potts.
Dr. Potts’ presentation, entitled “Sugar Toxicity Revealed,” will detail a novel method for detecting toxicity that provides unparalleled sensitivity, breadth and adversity identification of every day use of sugar in one’s diet. Potts graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology from Brigham Young University in 1974. He then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Biology at Utah State University in 1978, and completed his Ph.D. in Zoology at the University of Washington in 1986. Potts was also a National Institutes of Health Fellow at the University of Florida from 1986-89.
The Dixie Forum is a lecture series designed to introduce DSU students, faculty, and the St. George community to diverse ideas and personalities and to widen their world views. Forum lectures are free and open to the general public for participation. Dixie students can earn one college credit by signing up for HUM 1000, attending lectures regularly, carefully considering the ideas expressed, and writing about the presentations.
The weekly Dixie Forum series will continue its 2014 Spring Semester slate on Tuesday, March 25, featuring a presentation entitled “The Democratization of Culture: How The Content We Create Shapes Our World” by Steve Babcock, Executive Creative Director of the Evolution Bureau in Colorado.
