Dixie Forum: A Window to the World
Dixie State University's weekly “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” convocation series continues its historical “Unheard Voices” format for the 2013 spring semester with a presentation entitled “Sexual & Gender Violence in History,” by Dixie Forum series director and DSU Assistant Professor of History Dr. Joel A. Lewis.
Dr. Lewis earned his Ph.D. in Transnational and Comparative History at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Prior to his arrival at Dixie State, Lewis taught American, European, and world history at Central Michigan University and Saginaw Valley State University. In addition, he is an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church, performing marriage ceremonies for non-denominational and inter-faith couples throughout the United States.
The Dixie Forum series has introduced a new format for the 2013 spring semester, in which the majority of the forums will now be held every Thursday featuring historical topics ranging from civil rights, military conflicts and the arts, among other subjects. Following DSU’s Spring Break, the next Dixie Forum will take place on Thursday, March 21st, and will feature a panel discussion on “Growing Up Gay & Mormon in Utah,” with members of the St. George Chapter of PFLAG (Parents and Families of Lesbians & Gays).
