From sumptuous catered Buffet Dinner to the stunning St. George debut of Utah’s teenage violin prodigy. Aubree Oliverson, the evening proclaims itself the highlight of winter events in St. George.
The Grand Promenade is led by “Utah’s first Governor”, with James Arrington assuming the role of Brigham Young. With participation of recent Utah governors and civic leaders, the ball will create a festive atmosphere of southern hospitality and elegance. With the Dixie State College Ballroom Dance team leading the way, attendees will enjoy some of the elegant dance steps of previous generations.
Designed to re-create the successful Governor’s Balls of the late 1900s in St. George, all proceeds from the ball are designated to benefit the youth music programs of the Southwest Symphony.
14 Year-old Violin Prodigy to Perform
At the Symphony Grand Ball
Weekdays at the Oliverson household in Orem, Utah, are awakened at 5:30 a.m. to the soaring sounds of violin music played by 14 year-old Aubree, the family’s oldest daughter. It all began nine years ago when she was given a violin – “on a whim”- by her father who noted how she was enthralled during attendance at a violin concert at a local university. Her enchantment with the violin grew and blossomed
Aubree “loves to play fast” – 13 notes per second in her virtuosic performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee. She soloed with the Utah Symphony at age eleven, and the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto No. 1 was featured in her performance with the Utah Symphony this past year, She has been featured at Carnegie Hall and in venues across western America – an American prodigy in the mold of “a modern day Mozart”.
Aubree’s father, Stephen, is the Principal of Provost Elementary School in Provo. Aubrey’s love affair with the violin inspired him to provide violin instruction for all fourth graders at his school. “The idea is to teach kids more than just music. If they find they can do something hard like that, they can do anything.”
Aubree began her storied music career on the piano at age four. She has a flair for composition and has written music for solo violin, duets, ensembles and piano. Aubree and her father perform together – violin and piano – under the name “Moon Light”. She is considered to be “one of America’s top virtuosos, thrilling audiences with both her poise and skill”.
Despite her focus on music, Aubree is well rounded – she has Utah County swim records for butterfly, free style and breaststroke, and is an excellent gymnast. She is a student in the public school system, loves art and poetry, and was the winner of a school story telling contest. Her amazing story can be viewed on the internet.
Aubree and her father will featured performers at the Southwest Symphony Grand Ball in the elegant Ballroom at SunRiver in St. George. The Ball is slated for Saturday, January 12, with dinner, dancing, and entertainment.
The proceeds from the ball will benefit the youth development programs of the Southwest Symphony. Tickets for the Ball are available now.
