Chamber breakfast speaker to share how the proposed G.O. bond may impact St. George parks, trails and recreation
St. George, Utah (July 28, 2023) – The St. George Area Chamber of Commerce’s Public Policy Group will host an “Eggs and Issues” Breakfast featuring Shane Moore, Director of Parks & Community Services for St. George City.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 9 at 7:30 a.m. in the Chamber Conference Room at 136 N. 100 East. There is no charge as the breakfast is sponsored by Intermountain Health, but attendees should register so food quantity may be planned well.
Shane Moore is the Director of Parks & Community Services for the City of St. George. He has worked in municipal government for 29 years, including 17 years with the City of St. George. He is passionate about outdoor recreation and believes parks and open spaces are essential to health and well-being. He is committed to providing our residents with access to quality parks and recreation opportunities that promote physical activity, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.
“If approved, the general obligation bond would provide $29 million in funding for trail connections, parks and facilities renovations, and new parks that are planned in communities throughout the city,” Moore said. He also explained that taxpayers would not see an increase in taxes because of this bond. On average, about $32 annually per property tax payer has funded a similar multiyear bond that passed in 1996. That bond sunsets this year. The same annual property tax that funded the prior bond would continue in that same amount, if voters pass this bond initiative in November.
