Dixie State University’s Music Department is pleased to present guest pianist Hilary Demske in a piano recital.
Due to another engagement held at Eccles Fine Arts Center that evenings, patrons wishing to attend the recital will be admitted at the east entrance of the Eccles Center.
An assistant professor and Director of Piano Studies at Utah Valley University, Demske is a native of Dallas, Texas. She holds a Ph.D. in Performance from the University of Michigan, a Master of Music from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music degree from The Peabody Conservatory of Music. She also studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich, Germany (the Munich Conservatory), where she won the highest graduate honor, the Meisterklasse Diploma in performance. Her principal teachers include Julian Martin, Logan Skelton, Margarita Höhenrieder, and Sam Wong.
A Steinway Artist since 2010, Demske’s album 'Henry Martin: Selected Piano Music' has received wide-spread critical acclaim. American Record Guide described it as full of "splendid panache and assurance", Deseret News wrote that she is "a pianist of rare technical finesse and musicality,” and Fanfare noted that "a composer couldn't ask for more committed or convincing performances.”
Demske has been featured on Bavaria's national radio station (Bayerische Rundfunk), Houston Public Radio's "From The Top", and numerous national radio broadcasts in the United States. Publications include “The Pianist’s Craft” by Scarecrow Press in December 2011 as well as Munich Found, the city's largest English language magazine. She has presented papers at a wide range of international conferences, including the Performing Tangier conference in Morocco, the European Piano Teachers Association conference in Serbia, the International Bertolt Brecht Conference in Hawaii, and a Symposium on Oswald Spengler in Belgium.
In addition, Demske has adjudicated at numerous national and international competitions, including the 2012 Gina Bachauer Junior and Young Artists International Piano Competition preliminary auditions, the 2012 Florida State University piano solo competition, and the Utah Symphony Salute to Youth preliminary auditions.
Demske is a seasoned performer and composer, regularly appearing across the globe in prestigious venues. This season includes recitals in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Canada, Japan, and venues across the United States. She received the School of the Arts Faculty Excellence Award in 2012 at Utah Valley University, where she directs the piano major program and teaches piano literature, piano pedagogy, and group piano.
