DSU Business of Art Seminar
Dixie State University and the Center for Education, Business and the Arts (CEBA) present the fifth-annual Business of Art Seminar on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9, 2013. The seminar began in 2009 as an effort to assist artists and aspiring artists from Utah, northern Arizona and southern Nevada in enhancing their business skills.
This seminar for visual artists in all disciplines will provide an exciting schedule of classes, presented by knowledgeable professionals from Salt Lake City, Provo, LaVerkin, St. George and Kanab.
This concept was created by CEBA, a regional economic development organization centered in Kanab and Kane County. This year’s seminar is sponsored by DSU, the Southwest Applied Technology College, CEBA, the Kane County Office of Tourism & Film Commission, Southern Utah University and Kanab City.
The event will begin Friday, Nov. 8, at 6:30 p.m., with a reception, light refreshments, entertainment and a keynote address by DSU Sears Art Museum Gallery graphic designer Tracy Anderson. Then on Saturday, Nov. 9, seminar attendees will be able to take part in several breakout sessions and a special panel discussion, followed by a luncheon featuring a keynote address by Lynnette Hiskey, who serves as director of the Utah Division of Arts & Museums (UDAM).
In addition, six Zions Bank grant award recipients will be formally introduced during the Saturday program. The funding for the grants, totaling $15,000, was made possible by a generous donation by Zions Bank and its president and CEO A. Scott Anderson. The annual grant program was created to support homegrown artists, small business owners and art educators in Utah, northern Arizona and southern Nevada who attend the annual Business of Art Seminar, which is held each November in Kanab.
