Dixie Regional's LiVe Well Expo
The Dixie Regional LiVe Well Health Expo will take place Saturday, March 1.
“There is no admission charge for the expo, although some of the screenings do have a small fee to cover the cost of testing,” said Caitlyn Brooksby, hospital event coordinator. “The health expo is offered so people can discover more about their personal health.” To help keep lines down the day of the fair, fees for the blood tests may be paid by cash, check or charge at the hospital cashier’s office during regular business hours on weekdays.
Many family friendly services will be included in the expo this year, including a Teddy Bear Clinic. Children can bring their favorite doll or teddy bear and help nurses with routine check-up procedures. The Teddy Bear Clinic shows children that the hospital and the doctor’s office are caring places where they can receive comfort when they are sick. The Teddy Bear Clinic will be from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. There will also be a Wii Fit, bounce house, obstacle course and many more children-friendly activities. Children can also tour a fire truck and ambulance outside of the Health & Performance Center.
In addition the Health Department will be hosting car seat check in the parking lot near the Health & Performance Center. Many of the screenings that have been offered at the health fair in the past have made adjustments to benefit attendees of all ages.
“We want people to know these screenings are not just for adults,” Brooksby said. “As childhood obesity continues to be a major problem, it’s necessary to start doing screenings at an earlier age. It’s also important to teach children to live a healthy lifestyle, so we encourage parents to bring their children and use this as an opportunity to teach them to live fit from a young age.”
Other screenings and assessments that will be administered by health care professionals at the fair include body composition analysis, blood pressure and blood glucose testing, complete metabolic profile ($25 additional fee), colorectal kits ($3), foot & ankle screening, cataracts and glaucoma checks, painful joint screening (including arthritis), nutritional counseling, osteoporosis screening, dizziness testing, hearing testing, pediatric developmental screening and oximetry reading.
Also available will be a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test ($15 additional fee), RESEP Clinic counsel for Downwinders, skin cancer screening, speech services, stroke assessment, wound consultations, lipid panel/cholesterol breakdown ($25 additional fee -- fast for at least 8 hours prior), and more.
Other informational booth hosts include the physician referral program, Active Aging Services, Dixie Regional Volunteer Services, and Southwest Utah Public Health Department, family medicine, genetics counseling and lactation services.
Screenings are offered in the public concourses of the Health & Performance Center (all levels). “The LiVe Well Health Expo would not be possible without the dedicated people who volunteer their time to staff the screenings,” Brooksby said. “They put in a lot of work and we’re thankful for their efforts.”
