Dixie Regional Hosts Heart Health Education Seminar

While working at Target, Robert Shepherd began to feel fatigued and unexpectedly lost consciousness. A young coworker immediately called 9-1-1 and began CPR. The physicians were able to bring Shepherd back after he had gone 27 minutes without a heartbeat. Now, six months since his heart attack, Shepherd is doing well. “I feel very fortunate,” he said.
The seminar is for patients like Shepherd to learn how to maintain heart health after recovering from an incident and for those who have never had heart problems. “Our hope is to educate people while they are healthy,” said Kendra Smith, cardiovascular program specialist at Dixie. “If we can teach people how to prevent problems, we save not only lives, but improve quality of life as well.”

Dr. Michael Khoury will speak on vascular health at the seminar. Dr. Alec Eror will speak about valve surgery, and Travis Brinkerhoff, a nurse practitioner, will speak on heart disease prevention. “The best part about the forum is it gives attendees an opportunity to ask the cardiologists any question,” said Smith. “It’s the perfect atmosphere where individuals can get questions and concerns addressed.”
