Dixie Forum: A Window to the World
From professors incorporating PowerPoint presentations into their lectures to students working on group assignments in computer labs, technological advancements have changed the way instructors teach and students learn. Dixie State University student Kai Anderson will discuss these changes at DSU's "Dixie Forum: A Window on the World" on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Anderson will share tips for making the most of technology in the classroom that he learned while meeting with one of Apple's directors of education. He will also offer examples of how technology is shaping education and how students and instructors can take advantage of this change. This lecture will be beneficial to students, instructors, parents and staff members.
Anderson, who is studying computer science at Dixie State, has worked for Apple Campus Stores at DSU and Utah State University for six years. While studying computer science, he has gained a love for the way technology can benefit users, especially students. While at Dixie, he has taught classes and presented to clubs about iPads, computers, apps and websites that assist in learning.
Dixie Forum is designed to introduce the St. George community and DSU students, faculty and staff to diverse ideas and personalities while widening their worldviews via a 50-minute presentation. Dixie State students can earn one college credit by signing up for HUM 1000, attending lectures regularly, carefully considering the ideas expressed and writing about the presentations.
The weekly series will continue at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, when Clark Gilbert, CEO of Deseret News, presents "Innovation in the Media" in the Zion Room on the fifth floor of Holland Centennial Commons on the DSU campus.
