Diabetes Fair
Dixie Regional Medical Center will hold the annual Diabetes Fair this Saturday, November 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Russell C. Taylor Health Science Building, 1526 S. Medical Center Drive in St. George.
The fair theme is ?Just Do It!? It was chosen to encourage those who may be putting off diabetes education or treatment to put their health first. ?The fair is a great way to provide accurate information about what diabetes is and gives attendees access to information straight from the experts,? said Blaire Snell, a dietitian at the Dixie Endocrine and Diabetes Clinic.
There is no fee to attend; it is completely free to the public. ?We would love to have lots of people come,? nurse practitioner Lucinda Ross said. ?You don?t have to have diabetes or to be our patient to attend. Our educators are there to give everyone information about how to prevent and treat diabetes.?
Multiple vendors will be there with helpful information on how to prevent or treat diabetes. There will be presentations from registered doctors and nurse practitioners throughout the day touching on topics from diabetes medication information to tips for insulin pumping.
?There are a lot of myths out there about insulin that are just not true,? Ross said. ?We try to educate people about the reality. People may think they are going to be on ten shots a day, and that?s not true.?
What is the number one thing people need to know about diabetes? ?Diabetes is preventable by eating right and exercising,? said Ross. ?If you do have diabetes, it is not a death sentence. It?s just all about controlling the blood sugar.?
