2016 Landscape Workshop
Come develop a plan for renovating your outdated, water-demanding yard into a striking landscape that will compliment your home, reduce water use, and be suited to Washington County’s culture and climate. This three-part workshop will assist homeowners through the design process and provide practical tips for implementing their plans.
Here is a breakdown of what the course will cover in each class.
Class 1--August 10
The first class will provide an introduction to the landscape renovation process and show examples of what can be done. We will also go over the details you need to consider before you start tearing out your lawn. Several methods for creating a base map will be discussed so that participants can complete an inventory, analysis, and some rough concepts for their landscape before the next class.
Class 2--August 17
With base maps and concepts in hand, this class will be devoted to discussing and refining the designs. Participants will be divided into small groups to discuss their concepts and what challenges they are facing. Each group will be led by a landscape professional whose expertise will help you to evaluate and consider functional solutions for your design. The designs will begin to move from rough concepts to actual scaled landscape plans. Plant selections will be discussed briefly and refined by the homeowner before the next class.
Class 3--August 24
The final class will focus on the nuts and bolts of implementing the homeowner’s completed designs. We will discuss lawn removal methods, how to protect landscape areas that will remain, and retrofitting existing irrigation systems. Participants will create a basic irrigation layout that they can take to various local irrigation parts suppliers that offer free irrigation designs and parts lists.
