DESCRIPTION:As part of Dixie State University's Inauguration and Homecoming Week festivities\, the university will welcome United States Under Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller to campus for a special lecture event on Monday evening\, October 20.\n\n\n\nUnder Secretary Gottemoeller's visit to DSU is sponsored by former U.S. senators for Utah Robert Bennett and Jake Garn\, Utah State Representative Jennifer Seelig\, and former Utah Representative Ryan Wilcox.\n\n\n\nMs. Gottemoeller currently serves as Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. Her lecture presentation\, entitled "Nuclear Weapons in the 21st Century\," will discuss the current state of nuclear security\, including how the United States is seeking to secure and reduce stockpiles of weapons and vulnerable nuclear materials\, as well as to halt the spread of nuclear weapons worldwide.\n\n\n\nUnder Secretary Gottemoeller advises the Secretary of State on arms control\, nonproliferation and disarmament. Prior to her appointment to the U.S. State Department\, she was a senior associate with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and served as director of the Carnegie Moscow Center.\n\n\n\nIn 1998-2000\, as Deputy Undersecretary of Energy for Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation and before that as Assistant Secretary and Director for Nonproliferation and National Security\, she was responsible for all nonproliferation cooperation with Russia and the Newly Independent States. Ms. Gottemoeller received a B.S. from Georgetown University\, and a M.A. from George Washington University.
