DESCRIPTION:Ever since Mars was first observed through a telescope\, we humans have been captivated by the red planet's apparent similarity to earth. Dark green areas resembling vegetation appeared to be growing across a desert oasis. However\, early Mars fly-by missions revealed a different Mars. The polar ice caps were dry ice. The atmosphere lacked oxygen\, and it was too thin to allow for liquid water to exist on the surface. Alas\, Mars appeared to be more like the moon than Earth. Now\, retired professor and astronomer Ron Smith will take us on a journey through time and space as he unveils evidence that strongly suggests life formed on Mars about four billion years ago.\n\n \n\nAn informal social gathering begins at 6 pm.
