DESCRIPTION:Dixie State University will host its fifth President's Colleagues of DSU meeting of the 2014-15 academic year featuring a presentation by colleague and retired Utah Circuit Court Judge Robert F. Owens. \n\n\n\nJudge Owens will share stories from his book\, "Tales of the Circuit Court\," which features several anecdotes from 15 years on the bench\, including how the Utah Circuit Court began and various illustrations and drawings from his lifetime hobby of cartooning. Judge Owens graduated from the University of Arizona Law School in 1954\, and spent nearly a decade serving in the U.S. Army in clandestine operations in Europe. He returned home to Phoenix in 1962 to practice law and then relocated to St. George to practice in 1974. After a few years\, he was appointed to St. George City Judge\, and then Utah State Circuit Judge of the four counties in southwest Utah\, before retiring in 1992.  \n\n\n\nThe President's Colleagues of Dixie State University\, established more than 20 years ago by former DSU President Dr. Douglas Alder\, is a group of retired professors and other professionals who live mostly in the St. George and Washington County area. Dr. Alder\, who also started an Honors Program at DSU\, organized the Colleagues as a way to increase academic activities on campus. \n\n\n\nThe Colleagues meet together once a month during the academic year to hear presentations from each other and/or invited guests. The March Colleagues meeting will spotlight the 28th-Annual Sears Dixie Invitational Art Show and Sale\, with a presentation by DSU art professor Glen Blakley on Monday\, March 2.
