SUMMARY:Children will have an opportunity to “be a part of the art” in Kids Create!
DESCRIPTION:This camp is perfect for kids (ages 8 11) of every stripe from bashful to bold! Located in the beautiful new Center for the Arts at Kayenta\,* children will be exposed to the arts in many forms while getting hands-on experience in creating art. Modeled on the Orff Schulwerk approach to learning\, the instructor will guide students as they sing\, speak\, play\, move\, and create. And every student finds his or her place and becomes an integral part of class creations.\n\nStudents will get to play Orff instruments (child-sized xylophones\, metallophones and glockenspiels) drums\, recorders\, and all sorts of handheld percussion instruments. In addition to music\, they'll explore art concepts related to the music. They'll come home with a free recorder and a drum they will make from a gourd and skin. Kids will also learn to weave and make acrylic pour tiles and wearable gourd art. On the last day\, kids will get a chance to express their creative sides at a concert!\n\nKathleen Whiteside is the camp's teacher and director. She has been teaching music since 1984\, and is a certified Orff Schulwerk instructor. She also teaches piano and choir\, and has been part of the staff at George Washington Academy in St. George for 13 years.\n\nMrs. Whiteside holds a bachelor's degree in music education/ choral vocal music\, and a master's degree in vocal performance. She currently serves as president of the Southern Utah Orff Schulwerk Association.\n\nDetails:\n\nPlease make sure to pack your child a midday snack each day. They will be signed in/out every day\, to ensure their safety. Parents\, you're encouraged to review the great info about Orff at AOSA.org.
