SUMMARY:Chamber Training featuring Utah Anti-Discrimination Labor Division
DESCRIPTION:Few things more important to me than working to make this world a more equitable place to live. To this end\, I studied to be a lawyer in my home country of Argentina\, and then Roman law in Italy. I worked at KSL for the last decade as a Journalist\, News Anchor\, and Content Director. With each article\, news segment\, or editorial\, I would try and find a way to help the public better understand their rights and how to be happier\, healthier people. I was awarded "Excellence and Innovation in Visual Digital Storytelling and Excellence in Collaboration and Partnerships while working for KSL". You may find me occasionally cooking an Argentine or Italian dish as a guest on Studio 5. Currently\, I work as the Outreach and Educational Specialist for the Utah Antidiscrimination Labor Division (UALD) which has allowed me to join my passion for law\, my experience in communications\, and my drive for a richer and fairer world. \n\n \n\n\n\n \n\nAbout UALD: \n\nThe Antidiscrimination and Labor Division's Employment Discrimination focus is to administer and enforce the Utah Antidiscrimination Act of 1965\, found at Utah Code Annotated\, Title 34A Chapter 5. The Act prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of race\, color\, religion\, sex\, age (over 40)\, national origin\, disability\, sexual orientation\, gender identity\, pregnancy\, childbirth or pregnancy-related conditions. Utah has also added additional protections which provide that employees may express religious and moral beliefs in the workplace in a reasonable manner on equal terms with similar expressions allowed by the employer and that employers may not discharge\, demote\, refuse to hire\, retaliate\, or discriminate against an individual based on expressions of religious\, political\, or personal belief outside of the workplace. Additionally\, based on a work-share and contract agreement with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission\, the UALD is empowered to act as an agent of the EEOC and has authority to enforce Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act\, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.\n\nThe Employment Discrimination Section receives\, mediates (for early resolution)\, investigates and resolves charges of employment discrimination. It also acts as a resource to employees and employers concerning laws which prohibit employment discrimination\, conducts seminars and uses other teaching methods to make employers aware of conditions which lead to employment discrimination.\n\nThe Employment Discrimination Section encourages voluntary compliance through effective educational presentations. Alternative dispute resolution has also been used to effectively resolve employment discrimination charges.\n\nThe Utah Antidiscrimination & Labor Division investigates and resolves employment and housing discrimination complaints and enforces Utah's minimum wage\, wage payment requirements and laws which protect youth in employment.\n\nThrough their successful Education & Outreach Program\, the Division also promotes public awareness through educational presentations and training workshops.
