About Us
Washington County serves southwestern Utah, with St. George as our county seat. The county provides essential public services including law enforcement through the Sheriff's Office, property assessment and taxation, land use planning and zoning, road maintenance, parks and recreation facilities, and various administrative services for residents and businesses.
Established in 1852, our county encompasses approximately 2,430 square miles and serves a growing population drawn to our area's year-round mild climate, stunning red rock landscapes, and proximity to national parks. Our county government works to balance responsible growth with preservation of natural resources, supporting both established communities and expanding developments throughout our region.
The county facilitates economic development, maintains public infrastructure, and provides a framework for the diverse communities within our boundaries - from the urban center of St. George to smaller towns like Hurricane, Ivins, and Santa Clara. Through various departments and elected officials, Washington County serves as a key partner in maintaining the high quality of life that makes our area attractive to residents, retirees, and businesses alike.
