Dixie Forum: A Window to the World
Fans of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" are in for a treat when Dr. Bradford Lee Eden presents about J.R.R. Tolkien, his life and his works at Dixie State University's weekly lecture series "Dixie Forum: A Window on the World."
During his Dixie Forum presentation, Eden will not only discuss Tolkien in relation to "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" but will also look at Tolkien's work as a medievalist and philologist and examine his theory of sub-creation. Additionally, Eden will talk about the concept of music throughout Tolkien's writings.
The dean of library services at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., Eden has master's degrees in musicology and library science as well as a doctorate in musicology. In addition to serving as editor of several journals concerning library management, Eden is on the editorial boards of multiple library-related publications.
In addition to publishing extensively in the areas of metadata and librarianship, Eden has written several books about medieval music, liturgy and Tolkien. His recent books on the subjects include "Middle-earth Minstrel: Essays on Music in Tolkien" and "The Hobbit and Tolkien's Mythology: Essays on Revisions and Influences," published by McFarland in 2010 and 2014, respectively.
