Name: Connecting Paths-Gallery Show Featuring Brian Passey
Date: March 1, 2019 - March 29, 2019
Event Description:
In August 2016, writer/photographer Brian Passey and his wife, Cammie, embarked on a cross-country road trip to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. The trip had two primary goals: See interesting places and visit loved ones. For 12 of the 16 nights they stayed with friends and family members across the country. The trip began in in the deserts of Utah before crossing the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains, reaching its easternmost point in our nation’s capital. From there it became a tour of the Deep South, taking in characteristically southern cities like Savannah and New Orleans. The final stretch returned to the familiar territory of the Southwest. That 6,000-mile, 17-day trip is documented through the photography and words found in this exhibition, Connecting Paths. Short essays accompany 39 of the 54 photos in the exhibition. The majority of the photos are mounted on six maps of the United States. This is designed to be a visual journey where viewers experience the road trip with the Passeys via words and images. It’s more than just a photography show; it’s the story of a road trip. The first map features 15 square photos taken on Brian’s iPhone and uploaded to Instagram while the Passeys were traveling the spherical route. The succeeding maps document five separate segments of the trip. Each photo is accompanied by a short essay about the subject of the photo and that particular portion of the trip. Six larger photos are framed separately but included near their chronological and geographic order in the trip. Connecting Paths was first exhibited in 2017 at Dixie State University in the Dolores Doré Eccles Fine Arts Center. The DiFiore Center will feature this gallery show from March 1, 2019 to March 29, 2019. An opening reception will be held March 2, 2019 from 5pm to 7pm.
